Wow, I'm a mom!

Quinton is one week old today and it has been a crazy week.  Being a mom is the one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life and one of the most rewarding.  I thought I had feeding down, but we found out he is not getting enough food.  I had a break down at the doctor's office when we found out he lost weight...I swear I have probably cried more than he has this week.  I met with a lactation specialist and worked out a system to get his weight up and help me (hopefully) produce more milk.  It seems to be working so far...we actually got some good sleep last night (knock on wood).  Everything else is really good.  He is super cute and I love watching him sleep.  He really likes it when people talk to him.  He also love his swing...that was probably the best thing we bought for him.

Derek has be amazing.  I can't believe how having a baby has really strengthened our marriage.  He has helped me out so much.  I love him so much and he is going to be a wonderful father.

Quinton Presley Day has arrived!!!!

He's here and he's perfect!  I had a doctor's appointment on Monday (11/28) and I was still 1 cm dilated...I had made zero progress all month.  We scheduled an induction for Tuesday evening, but Quinton had other plans.  At around midnight early Tuesday my water broke and Derek and I went to the hospital to get checked in.  I wasn't feeling any contractions so they started me on pitocin.  Quinton was not responding well too the pitocin so they had to stop it and they let me contract on my own.  I made it to 4 cm and that is where the progress stopped.  I got an epidural and that was the worse.  They had problems getting the catheter in my spine and had to try 6 different times.  Once they got it in I felt great.  At around 4:00 pm on Tuesday they checked me and I was still at 4 cm.  My options were to get a c section or wait a couple more hours.  I decided to get a c section and I'm glad I did.  It took 3 people to push him down, the cord was wrapped around his neck, and he was positioned face up.  He was born at 4:58 on Tuesday, November 29th.  He weighs 8lbs. 5oz. and is 20.5 inches long.  He is doing really well with feeding and Derek has been awesome at helping out with diaper changes.  I am so excited to start this new journey of my life and to watch him grow and learn.  He is absolutely precious.

High blood pressure, labor cookies, and earthquakes...oh my!

I felt my first earthquake on Saturday.  The first one I felt was at 2 am.  I was watching TV and working on Derek's Christmas stocking when I felt the floor shaking underneath me.  It was a weird sensation, but I just brushed it off.  Well, come to find out that there was an earthquake in the Oklahoma City area and I felt it in Wichita.  Then, around 11pm there was another one and it was a lot stronger.  It shook the bed and the dresser mirror.  It was a scary feeling and I can't imagine what bigger earthquakes feel like.  That was the highlight of my weekend mainly because I was tired, sore, and had horrible heartburn....good times.

Today, I had to go see my doctor because I was worried about some swelling and high blood pressure.  She checked me out and everything is looking good.  I just need to take it easy and lower my sodium intake.  So, good news there.  I also made a batch of labor cookies.  Women in the pregnancy forums were talking about them and so I decided to make them for fun.  It's basically a really spicy gingersnap cookie.  They are really good, but REALLY spicy.  I doubt they will induce labor, but they sure are good to eat.  I'm going to save the recipe and alter it for after the pregnancy so they won't be as spicy.

I'm still just playing the waiting game and trying to find the motivation to work on my music history paper (joy).  It's getting really hard to stay motivated for school, but I know I can do it.  I have to keep telling myself that the more I get done before the baby the less I have to do once he gets here.  Plus, it will keep my mind off of wanting to go into labor.

That's it for now.  Hopefully, my next post will be Quinton's birth story. :)

Return to the blogging

I posted a blog a long time ago and then I forgot about it.  Well, yesterday I was reading a friend's blog and I loved it.  It was so simple and just gave me a jump start to go back to my blog and starting doing this again.  So, her we go....

This week has been a waiting game.  I'm 37 weeks pregnant this week and I am ready to meet baby Quinton.  Overall, this pregnancy has been really good.  I'm low-risk, all of my doctor's appointments have been wonderful (I love my doctor!), and he has been measuring correctly this entire pregnancy.  I'm just at the point now where I am just ready.  I'm uncomfortable, I have horrible heartburn, and I'm just over the pregnancy thing.  I am excited to be a mommy and Derek and I are ready.  The nursery is done, we have pretty much everything we need for the first couple of newborn weeks, and now we wait.  I'm trying to be patient, but it's hard sometimes.  I want to see what he looks like, what color his eyes are, how much hair he has...I'm just ready to move on to this exciting and terrifying chapter in my life.

I plan to keep up with this blog and just write about my new adventures in parenting.   There will be a lot of first time things to write about that's for sure....and I'm excited about every single one of them!  Stay tuned for more of my ramblings and hopefully my next post will be Quinton's birth story.
